A study released by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group in June 2004 found that 79% of the consumer credit reports surveyed contained some kind of error or mistake. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, consumers have the right to gain access to their credit report and to dispute any information on the report that is inaccurate, misleading, obsolete and unverifiable.

CONSUMER ALERT

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld a federal law that says consumers whose credit rating is damaged because of an error by a credit reporting agency HAVE ONLY TWO YEARS from the time the error is made to file suit.

The Supreme Court also upheld the decision to base your insurance rates in accordance with your credit score.
